The NVIDIA Mellanox ConnectX-4 MCX456A-ECAT is a dual-port 100Gb/s VPI (Virtual Protocol Interconnect) adapter card built around the ConnectX-4 controller (MT27704A0-FDCF-EV), with each QSFP28 port independently field-selectable as 100Gb/s EDR InfiniBand or 100 Gigabit Ethernet, connected through a PCIe 3.0 x16 host interface. It supports native InfiniBand RDMA transport for HPC fabrics and RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE v2) in Ethernet mode, and its dual-port design enables link aggregation, port-level redundancy, or simultaneous connections to separate InfiniBand and Ethernet fabrics from a single PCIe slot. This SKU is also distributed under IBM OEM part number 00MM963 for IBM server platforms, alongside its standard NVIDIA channel SKU. As a standard PCIe add-in card in the Legacy Adapters line, the MCX456A-ECAT is widely deployed in HPC clusters, AI/ML training environments and dual-fabric enterprise storage networks.
