Product Description
The Broadcom HBA 9500-8i is a PCIe Gen 4.0 Tri-Mode host bus adapter from the HBA 9500 series, the first Tri-Mode HBA family to pair a PCIe Gen 4.0 host interface with PCIe Gen 4.0 storage connectivity. Built on the eight-lane SAS3808 I/O controller, it connects up to eight internal 12Gb/s SAS, 6Gb/s SATA or NVMe devices through a single x8 SFF-8654 (SlimSAS) connector. Broadcom's Tri-Mode SerDes technology negotiates protocol and speed per drive, letting NVMe, SAS and SATA devices share the same backplane bay without a dedicated controller for each. The adapter ships in IT (pass-through) mode by default for direct OS, ZFS or software-defined-storage visibility, with optional IR firmware adding basic RAID 0, 1 and 10 through the SAS3IRCU utility. It remains compatible with existing SFF-8639 (U.2) backplanes and is Universal Backplane Management (UBM/SFF-TA-1005) ready, easing migration toward SFF-TA-1001 (U.3) infrastructure, and includes hardware secure boot to authenticate firmware before execution.
