Product Description
The Broadcom BCM5720 is a dual-port 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet controller IC from the long-established NetXtreme family, widely used as the default onboard Gigabit Ethernet solution across enterprise server motherboards. It targets OEM board designs that need mature, broadly qualified copper Gigabit connectivity rather than the RDMA-class offload found in newer NetXtreme E-Series chips. The BCM5720 integrates dual copper PHYs on-die, presenting a PCIe Gen2 host interface sized for Gigabit throughput and eliminating the need for discrete PHY components. Stateless TCP/UDP/IP checksum and segmentation offloads reduce host CPU load, while NIC Partitioning (NPAR) support allows the chip to present multiple logical functions on server LOM designs. Wake-on-LAN and IEEE 802.3az Energy-Efficient Ethernet support round out a feature set proven across many years of server OEM deployment. As bare silicon, the BCM5720 is intended for reflow soldering onto customer-designed motherboard or NIC PCBs.
